FEMCON National Showcase Germany: Empowering Women in Construction

On May 17, 2024, the picturesque town of Breisach am Rhein became the epicenter of an inspiring event dedicated to promoting gender equality in the construction industry. Hosted at BadenCampus and organised by Outside Media & Knowledge, the FEMCON National Showcase Germany brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, industry professionals, and educators, all united by a common goal: to empower women in construction.

Welcome Address

The event opened with a warm welcome from Sanja Ivandic of Outside Media & Knowledge, who highlighted the significant achievements of the FEMCON project. Her introduction set the tone for an afternoon filled with insightful presentations, engaging discussions, and valuable networking opportunities.

Keynote Speech by Carsten Müller

One of the keynote speakers, Carsten Müller, First Deputy Mayor of Breisach am Rhein, provided a comprehensive analysis of the construction sector and vocational education and training (VET) from a policymaker’s perspective. He emphasized the importance of integrating gender equality policies within the industry and praised the FEMCON project for its pivotal role in driving this change. To honor his contributions and support, Mr. Müller was presented with a beautiful painting of the town, commissioned from the talented local artist Arantzazu de Zatarain Dachs. This gesture symbolized the strong connection between the community and the ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity.

Insight into the FEMCON Reach & Teach Toolkit

Daniel Schächtele from SCHÄCHTELE HSE Engineering Office for Occupational Safety offered a compelling presentation on the current state of the construction field. He drew connections to the practical applications of the FEMCON Reach & Teach Toolkit, highlighting its effectiveness in promoting safety and inclusivity on construction sites. His endorsement underscored the toolkit’s value as a critical resource for both employers and employees.

The event also featured Olga Kuchendaeva from the Welcome Center Southern Upper Rhine, who discussed the various training and educational opportunities available for women in construction. Her presentation highlighted the role of the Welcome Center in facilitating access to these resources and underscored the importance of initiatives like FEMCON in bridging the gender gap in vocational training and employment.

International Perspective from Future Cast Ireland
